New York magazine, which commissioned the photographs, is now warning cease and desist orders on big name Web sites including major newspapers who are using the images without permission.

Almost 50 years later, Stern re-creates his iconic photographs, pose for pose with his new muse, Lohan, at the same hotel. Though the star of "Mean Girls" and "Freaky Friday" is rarely compared to the screen legend, Stern told the magazine he agreed to do the recreation because he suspected Lohan "had a lot more depth to her" than one might assume from "those teenage movies."

Kathy Sierra Gets Her Blog Knocked Off

A BATTLE is raging in the blogosphere after a blogger hung up her keyboard and complained to police after receiving online death threats.

Marketing and technology blogger Kathy Sierra started getting death threats in comments on her blog about a month ago. Then people started posting messages on other blogs. Anonymous commenters have threated to slit her throat and hang her. The final straw for Sierra was seeing a photograph of herself on the blog unclebobism with panties placed mask-like over her face a la Hannibal Lecter. (The site has since been shut down.)

Announcing that she was pulling out of a speaking engagement in San Diego at the weekend because she feared for her life, Sierra wrote on her blog "I do not want to be part of a culture -the Blogosphere - where this is considered acceptable. Where the price for being a blogger is kevlar-coated skin and daughters who are tough enough to not have their "widdy biddy sensibilities offended" when they see their own mother Photoshopped into nothing more than an objectified sexual orifice, possibly suffocated as part of some sexual fetish."

Unclebobism and another now defunct site meankids.org (where other threats were made) were set up by a group of bloggers that included Chris Locke who has since been inundated with hate mail.

Locke says he had nothing to do with the threats but he has written a response on his Rageboy blog saying that while they were in bad taste he has nothing to apologize for.

Meanwhile, the blogosphere is abuzz with charges of misogyny and sexism. Microsoft's uber blogger Robert Scoble, who says he too has received death threats, has gone on a one-week hiatus in support of Sierra. Others are saying this is just a case of online name-calling at its worst.

The online journalism world today is mourning the passing of one the pioneers of Internet news, columnist Cathy Seipp, who died yesterday in Los Angeles after a five-year fight against lung cancer. A non-smoker, she was 49.

I met Seipp at the end of the last century, when she was busy on two projects: trying to convince journalists that bringing back the grand tradition of gathering in social settings to get soused was something we never should have lost, and also trying to convince those of us in the print business that we were ignoring one of the biggest stories in years—the impact bloggers were having on the news business.

Of course, she was right on both accounts. With advice columnist Amy Alkon, Seipp started a series of drinkathons for Los Angeles journalists that continued for years (and for all I know, is still going), bringing together those of us at newspapers with the new names of online reporting. You knew Seipp was onto something when blogging trailblazers like Matt Welch and Ken Layne are trying to convince you to throw away everything and come help them launch a new paper to be delivered free to the homes of rich people that will be underwritten by millionaire and former LA mayor Richard Riordan, and you've almost had enough tequila shots to go for it.

That was the kind of craziness Seipp was after. She loved the mashup of old and new journalism worlds, and tried repeatedly to get me and others to pay attention to what was happening. Media evolution got plenty of treatment in her own columns, of course. She'd long been a caustic critic of the Los Angeles Times (and Seipp fans will remember one of her all-time, most entertaining takedowns with three familiar words: Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez), but she also had loads of criticism for the company I worked for, called New Times then (Village Voice Media today), and how it was transforming the alternative media business. Unlike other critics of New Times, Seipp did her homework and knew what she was talking about. She'd met enough of us to know what we were actually trying to accomplish, even if she believed we were falling woefully short of the mark.

I'll miss Cathy Seipp keeping us on our toes. And I'll miss those damn drunks in LA. Cathy, you won't be forgotten.

Hollyscoop took in the show and reports: When asked about all the controversy surrounding her and what she thought of it, Antonella said, "It was unnecessary, it was hard to deal with it, it was an unnecessary distraction...trying to stay off the Internet, some nervousness... I tried to get through it...my family has been so supportive, they told me to stay focused and we will worry about all that later."

Antonella also told Ryan that she would stay in Los Angeles for a while longer to see what offers she gets. Honey, you already got two big offers! Antonella says that singing is her number one priority but would take acting offers along with modeling.

American idol produces stars. And though this may not be exactly what they had in mind, Antonella may have just enough spunk and the looks to grab a shot. But she will have to be very careful at what offers that she chooses.

First, all the women — even Antonella Barba — really are better thanbarba2 the men at this point. It’s the difference between real performances and sing-along night down at the local bar. That could change over time — it certainly has in the past — but if you were picking the top 12, even Antonella might make it if the guys weren’t assured of getting six spots.

But really, is Antonella — or Haley Scarnato, for that matter — really “Idol'’-worthy? Nope, no way. Barba did a flat, lifeless version of Corinne Bailey Rae’s ”Put Your Records On'’ and Scarnato was really tentative on “If My Heart Had Wings.'’ That made them the clear losers in last night’s sing-off.

Simon Cowell was absolutely right when he complimented Girl Gone Mildly Wild Barba for her grace under fire in recent weeks. He was also right when he added, “I just wish you could sing better.'’

So, if Barba does make the final 12 tonight in american idol and I have this awful feeling she will, is she the worst singer to ever make the finals? Oh, probably not.

Let us not forget that the history of “Idol'’ is littered with finalists (sometimes finalists who went really far in the competition) who should never have gotten out of the round of 24. Let’s not forget that screechy-voiced Nikki McKibbin finished third in season 1; two bad singers from Hawaii (Jasmine Trias and Camile Velasco) made it to the top 12 in year 3, as did lousy lounge singer John Stevens; pitch-challenged Scott Savol made to 5th and Fran Drescher-esque Mikalah Gordon was 11th in season 4; and last year’s finals featured (at least briefly) Kevin “Chicken Little'’ Covais.

On second thought, maybe Antonella ain’t so bad.

Antonella Barba made her small screen debut this week in a straignt-to-the-Internet sex video called The Soprano, which is not about a female singer with a high-pitched voice. Indeed, this Soprano is not about a singer at all, even though Ms. Barba does burst into song at the most comical times during the festivities.

The Soprano on view here is A.J. Soprano, Tony's no-account son, who works as a delivery boy for the Domino's Pizza franchise owned by his father in Piscataway, New Jersey. Ms. Barba plays Bobbie Antonelli, a cocktail waitress and aspiring singer, who is being kept, unbeknownst to A.J., by Paulie Walnuts, one of Tony Soprano's lieutenants. The one with the creepy, white, gull-wing hair that complements his shoes and belt.

The action in this predictable "romance" begins late on a summer morning as Bobbie is lounging by the pool in her cheesy apartment complex enjoying a pre-lunch screwdriver. Too lazy to cook, she rings Domino's Pizza and orders a large meat-lover's special. Quicker than you can say, "D'ya think she'll do the delivery guy?" there stands a sweaty A.J. at Bobbie's door.

"Did anybody here order a meat lover's?" he asks with feigned indifference.

"I am a meat lover," replies Bobbie with exaggerated coyness. "You can come inside while you change, I mean, make change. You'll melt out there."

From this engaging setup The Soprano goes downhill fast. A.J. and Bobbie progress in a cliched arc from swapping wooden one liners—"I've always preferred finger food"—to swapping spit. Soon Bobbie is ordering pizza three afternoons a week, but one afternoon Paulie Walnuts comes by to surprise her with a cannoli while Bobbie's trying to suck the filling out of A.J.'s cannoli.

At this point what had been a pant-by-numbers exercise turns dark and stupid. Will Paulie's lingering resentment of Tony inspire him to whack Tony's son? Will A.J.'s desire to get made inspire him to whack Paulie? Will Bobbie break into a horrible rendition of Celine Dion’s "Because You Loved Me"? Does anybody care?

You don't have to be Roger Ebert to see that this undercooked production is enough to make those frozen pizzas with the self-rising crusts look like gourmet fare—despite grinding performances by its co-stars and a surprise topping at the end. Yet try as Bobbie and A.J. might to flesh out their roles with leaden banter and single entendre humor, this tedious and predictable romance never gets off the shag carpet.

Antonella Barba performed third on American Idol last night. Thank God she didn't go last or first for that matter. The only thing that might have helped Antonella Barba is if she sang on stage topless. She looked pretty, and for once she chose a song that was better for her voice. And it wasn't nearly as ambitious as previous weeks, with "Put Your Records On."

Talk about someone who's robotic and emotionless? There you go.

I really think there's a problem when a song like "Put Your Records On" has too much range for your voice. There were moments of almost greatness during Antonella's performance, and then came the low notes.

Antonella hit some bad notes in the beginning, but managed to smooth it out. She's nowhere close to the caliber of singing talent like some of the other girls in the competition. She also hit some rough lower notes, and sounded better in her higher register. It wasn't only her pitch that was a problem during those notes but also the tone of her voice.

Judge Simon Cowell actually mentioned the picture controversy, saying she'd handled herself well with the media attention. He didn't like her performance, however, and she snapped back with an attitude, which one would think will only hurt her favor at this point, as she is, with out a doubt, the weak link.

At any rate, TMZ is reporting that Girls Gone Wild wants her and Playboy has also reportedly shown interest.

Matt Sanchez Speaks Out!

We don't want to call Matt Sanchez a liar, but we've just been reading over Joe.My.God's short interview with the gay porn star-turned-conservative soldier and we can't help but feeling that something's rotten in the state of Douchemark.

As we mentioned yesterday, our friend Andy Towle claims to have dated the icon formerly known as Rod Majors. Sanchez, however, insists he's straight as an arrow:

American Idol Meets Girls Gone Wild: Antonella Barba Gets Offer

She has been called a 'Jersey Girl' gone wild. And now Antonella Barba, whose topless and scantily clad photos have splashed onto home computer screens for the past few weeks, has an offer from the creator of the popular DVD series. According to a report from the Orlando Sentinel the much hyped 20-year old has received a $250,000 offer from Joe Francis.

It appears that they want her to join the 'Girls Gone Wild' family. Or as it was put in a release, "GGW and Joe Francis want to reward the young lady from New Jersey with a $250,000 hosting contract to join the GGW brand and lifestyle." Join the lifestyle? What would those duties entail? Details, please.

Since provocative photos of Barba appeared on the Web, her notoriety has flourished. Yahoo! says she is the most-searched on the Web of the 16 contestants left.

The Sentinel speculates wisely that it is that fascination that helps explain why Barba, a weak singer, remains in the competition. She and the other women will sing at 8 p.m. Wednesday on the Fox contest. Results will be announced at 8 p.m. Thursday.

"Antonella Barba is an unbelievably sexy girl who obviously knows how to have a good time," Joe Francis, founder of Girls Gone Wild, said in a statement. "Why are people being ridiculed and punished for being sexual? It's ridiculous."

Dell's latest launch has really taken off. Unfortunately for Dell's crumbling profitability, it's a website called IdeaStorm, not a new PC. IdeaStorm is designed to get ideas and feedback from Dell users, and the mechanism is much the same as Digg: people make suggestions and everybody votes for the ones they like best.

The problem for Dell is that by far the most popular suggestion is one that Dell will find hard to implement. It means selling consumers PCs with Linux pre-installed. The company's founder, Michael Dell, really wants to do it, and he didn't become a multibillionaire by ignoring great marketing opportunities. He tried the idea around the turn of the century, when Linux hype was at its highest, and Dell still sells Linux on corporate servers and high-end workstations. But there are huge problems in offering Linux on mass-market PCs.

Clay Aiken To Get Back At Tabloids With 'Build-Your-Own-Scandal'

Clay Aiken has had just about enough of the gossip rags. The "American Idol" runner-up is reportedly so incensed about what he says are fabricated tales and photos involving his sex life that he's invited his 'Claymates' to do a little creative writing about him.

"It seems over the past few weeks, the tabloids and gossip mongers have had their hands full coming up with new and exciting 'scandals' for me to be a part of. Yet, for all of their efforts to be on the 'cutting edge' and the forefront of bull---- journalism, it seems that some of them may be running out of ideas and resorting to recycling and re-hashing some of their older tall tales," Aiken recently wrote on his blog. "With this in mind, we thought maybe we would try to give them a finger... er... a hand."

The "Invisible" singer has invited fans to "Build-Your-Own-Scandal." Aiken explains: "Come up with the most outlandish story you can that places me (either alone or with others close to me) in a really juicy, tawdry, scandalous, shameful story. Then, use any photos, videos, audio clips of me that you can find along with your favorite multimedia enhancing/'doctoring' program (like a Photoshop or a sound/video editor) to create your 'evidence'! Maybe you have 'pictures' of me being 'abducted by oversized turnips' or 'video' of me 'dancing with a three-legged gorilla.' Be creative!"

Aiken is obviously hurting from the negative press and this is an obvious attempt to deflect some of it.

Britney Spears may not stick through rehab

Britney Spears has stuck it out for two weeks in rehab but has had a torrid time doing so and broken some rules along the way, leaving her friends and family wondering if she will complete her stint there.

"Sources tell us that Britney is miserable in rehab and she's breaking rules," says Us Weekly Editor Katrina Szish. "She's left on shopping trips and using her cell phone too much."

Britney was cajoled into entering rehab by her family and estranged husband, Kevin Federline, so no one is quite sure how committed she is to the program. Is she in it just to retain custody of her children or because she realizes she has a problem.

"Britney originally agreed to go to rehab so she could see her children, otherwise she would not have gone," Katrina told ET

According to Katrina, the consequences of Britney not completing rehab are bound to be dire on her bid for custody of her two children with Federline.

"At this point, Britney's family is concerned she won't last 30 days," Katrina adds. "If Britney leaves early, she could risk losing custody of her kids."

Even among her most rabid red-state fans, she has become a cartoon character -- and journalists should treat her like one.
It's no longer enough for journalists to shake their heads in amazement at her most recent verbal atrocity. Since Coulter's already a bad joke, why not depict her wearing a dunce cap? Her quotes could begin to appear in a special section called "Coulter's Latest Stupid Comment."
Hilton will do anything to appear on gossip venues, like Page Six or Gawker, as a way to stay in the news and burnish her hard-earned rep as America's most outrageous party girl. Likewise, Coulter will do anything to enhance her dubious image as America's most outrageous pundit. The more we rip her, the more her books sell and the prices for her speeches go up.
It wasn't nearly enough for Coulter to mock the Sept. 11 widows. (Her previous low-water mark at desperately trying to steal attention from serious people.) Last week, she felt compelled basically to call presidential candidate John Edwards -- a Democrat, of course -- a "faggot" at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Edwards' team called the comment "a shameless act of bigotry." Representatives for Republican candidates John McCain, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney distanced themselves far from Coulter's sensibility.
As Slate columnist Jack Shafer pointed out Monday (relying on a file from the Washington Monthly), Coulter has a long history of mocking Bill Clinton, welfare recipients and Vietnam veterans, among others.

While it seems as if fans should be speaking out on the incredible singing talents of Jordin Sparks Lakisha Jones, Stephanie Edwards and Melinda Doolittle, the buzz around the contest is the Antonella Barba topless photos scandal.

So MTV asked three of the four contestants what they thought of the whole white hot talk that has surrounded the 20-year old Barba, who despite two less than stellar performances, remains on the show.

Leslie Hunt, the 24-year-old Chicago native was asked, "Was it hard to see Antonella get through?" She replied, "There's certain hype that comes with her, and that's not really something I understand. It doesn't excite me that she has pictures like that. I mean, who doesn't? Whatever, get over it. But I knew getting into this that it wasn't just about singing."

Alaina Alexander bombed out with the Dixie Chicks song "Not Ready to Make Nice" and was asked, "Were you ever nervous that private pictures of you might hit the Web?" Her answer: "No, I wasn't worried. It's unfortunate when that happens, but you have to keep going. I didn't really pay attention to the Internet or newspaper so I could stay focused, but I overheard people talking about it. Antonella's strong and doing just fine and she'll pull through."

But what about the fellas, are the surfing the World Wide Web looking for Antonella Barba in the buff? And were the guys talking about what happened with Antonella, AJ Tabaldo was asked. He was cool and played it off similar to Simon Cowell. "There's some sleazy people out there doing sleazy things and I feel bad for her, but she's beautiful and she's going to do well. Wikipedia co-founder Jimbo Wales appears to have changed his mind concerning Essjay, the administrator who was caught lying about his academic credentials. Wales issued a statement today on his User Talk page requesting that Essjay voluntarily step down. Wales defended his earlier comment about EssJay, claiming 'I only learned this morning that EssJay used his false credentials in content disputes ... I want to make it perfectly clear that my past support of EssJay in this matter was fully based on a lack of knowledge about what has been going on.' Wales did not comment on whether EssJay would continue to serve in his paid position at Wikia, the for-profit cousin of Wikipedia."

PRIVATE donors to Tony Blair’s controversial city academies can obtain honours and peerages by sponsoring the schools, a senior adviser to the programme has revealed.

Des Smith, a council member of the trust that helps recruit sponsors for academies, disclosed that if a donor gave sufficient money, he could be nominated for an OBE, CBE or even a knighthood.

He described what appeared to be a tariff system, in which a benefactor who gave to “one or two” academies might receive such an honour while a donor who gave to five would be “a certainty” for a peerage.

Smith’s comments came during an undercover investigation by The Sunday Times. Suspicions of a link between honours and donations to academies — Blair’s scheme for new privately backed schools — have existed since the ambitious programme of establishing up to 200 academies began in 2001. Six of the biggest academy sponsors have already been honoured after pledging their money.

Smith is an adviser to Sir Cyril Taylor, chairman of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT), and says he has been a regular visitor to Downing Street. Smith is a council member of the SSAT, and Taylor personally recommended him as a potential “project director” to an undercover reporter who approached the trust posing as a would-be donor.

On Friday, Smith told a reporter posing as a donor’s PR assistant that “the prime minister’s office would recommend someone like (the donor) for an OBE, a CBE or a knighthood”.

“Really?” replied the reporter. “Just for getting involved with the academies?”

“Just for, yes, they call them ‘services to education’,” replied Smith. He went on: “I would say to Cyril’s office that we’ve now got to start writing to the prime minister’s office.”

Smith was even more confident about the prospect of securing an honour if the donor was willing to give as much as £10m.

“You could go to the House of Lords and get a lord . . . become a lord,” he said.

“So, if you invested in five city academies over, say, a 10-year period, it would be . . .” said the reporter.

“A certainty,” said Smith.

Yesterday David Willetts, the shadow education secretary, said the honours system should not be used to buy support for a policy in this way: “There is a fine line here between recognising public-spirited people who wish to support education and blatantly rewarding people for propping up one of the prime minister’s pet projects.”

Taylor yesterday called Smith’s claims “outrageous.” He said: “In no way is giving money to the academy linked to the award of an honour.”

He admitted recommending people for honours in the past but not because they had given money to an academy: “I have never said to any prospective or existing sponsor that if they sponsor an academy, that I would recommend them for an honour.”

Smith himself backtracked when confronted by The Sunday Times. “It is not possible (to acquire an honour by a donation),” he said.

A Wikimedian, ,Essjay has been the subject of much controversy over the last day or two. In the summer he gave an interview to Stacey Schiff, a journalist with US paper The New Yorker. In it he said he was a “tenured professor of theology”. Recently, after taking up a paid position with Wikia, it was revealed he is in fact a 24-year-old kid named Ryan Jordan, as his userpage currently says. He is no professor, and he has no degrees. Of course, there is no obligation to be “real” on Wikipedia - rightly so. The debate has erupted after The New Yorker published an editor’s note on the article’s page on their website. Essjay is a long-standing and respected Wikimedian - he (was - as of today) an arbitrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, oversight - in positions of trust, for those unfamiliar with WP) and the issue is whether he used his fake credentials in content issues.

Memories of 1995 and a prostitute named Divine Brown probably came rushing back to Hugh Grant after some stupid local TV journalist named Cielke Sijben (good luck pronouncing that one) handcuffed herself to the British actor in Holland.

The “arrest” took place during the Dutch premiere of his latest movie, “Music & Lyrics”. Grant was walking the red carpet when Sijben, who posed like some fan asking to have a picture taken with him, slapped the other end of a long handcuff on Hugh’s left wrist, then let out triumphant shrieks that probably drove Hugh’s ball sacs back into his abdomen.

The (boring) Oscars are done, Martin Scorsese finally got his long-overdue Academy Award, and Jennifer Hudson practically swallowed Beyonce up in a battle of screamers on stage.

Yes, all the Dreamgirls were screaming, even Jennifer Hudson. But at least she got her Oscar. Beyonce couldn’t win an Oscar even if she pops one of her arteries trying to reach high notes, which she almost did last night. She does sound like a pipsqueak next to Jennifer.

Ellen DeGeneres was an OK host, but has nothing on Billy Crystal or any other Oscars host from 10-15 years ago. At more than three hours, the show was overly long, and again featured Celine Dion singing something that sounded just like that annoying Titanic song she sang 10 years ago.

Good thing for the stars, they have after parties to go to, while the only thing waiting for most of us is an empty and rather cold bed. At least someone’s having a good time, like these stars at the 2007 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Last December, Prison Break’s Lane Garrison was involved in an accident that killed his teenaged passenger. A few weeks later, singer Brandy followed suit, causing the death of a thirtysomething mother because of lousy driving.

Well, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston didn’t exactly get their nose jobs together. Cammie got her nose job in November, while Jennifer reportedly had her nose done in January this year. But they sure did go under the knife of the same plastic surgeon, and he’s the “mystery man” Us Magazine says they were gushing about at the Night Before Oscar party at the Beverly Hills Hotel on February 24.

Who was this mystery man? None other than Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Raj Kanodia, the man behind Diaz and Aniston’s recent rhinoplasty surgeries.

While Diaz gushed to Aniston that her nose was “the nose my nose always wanted to be,” she also couldn’t help raving about Kanodia’s spiritual side and the impact it’s had on her life.
Frankly, if they’ve already had their nose jobs done by the time the pics above were taken, then that plastic surgeon’s “magic” didn’t do much difference. Forget about those racy Antonella Barba pics . With the way she sang last night on American Idol, she has definitely earned her ticket home, and is one step closer to fulfilling her destiny of posing for any guy magazine, and most probably, Playboy.
